Maybe you have a class blog but would like students to publish their own posts?<\/p>\n<p>My Class is a management tool that brings a class blog and all your student blogs\/accounts together. It makes it easier for teachers to set up and monitor their classroom blogging program.<\/p>\n<p>My Class is ideal for teachers with students who either have their own student blog or publish posts on the class blog.<\/p>\n<p><strong>My Class has recently had an update!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Along with improved functionality, student blogs can now be created without an email address.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re already using My Class, go to <strong>Settings &gt; Save<\/strong> to make sure all features are activated.<\/p>\n<p>For our <a href=\"https:\/\/campuspress.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CampusPress<\/a> users, there is now more control over students&#8217; dashboards and the ability to create student blogs using a template. Either the teacher or student can be in charge of comment moderation.<\/li>\n<li>Control the\u00a0<strong>privacy settings<\/strong>\u00a0on all student blogs with just one click! Go to the dashboard of your class blog and follow the directions below.<\/p>\n<p>(If you haven&#8217;t set up a class blog yet, you can get one for free at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/edublogs.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/edublogs.org<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>1. \u00a0Go to\u00a0<strong>My Class &gt; Create a Class.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3579 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/teacherchallenge.edublogs.org\/files\/2014\/04\/myclass61-13jtk6b.png\" alt=\"Go to Create a Class\" width=\"163\" height=\"99\" \/><\/p>\n<p>2. \u00a0Select the options that work for you, such as:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(1) Select &#8216;This is a class blog&#8217;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(2) Select &#8216;No &#8211; use if you want them to publish posts on their student blog&#8217;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(3) Choose if you want to moderate posts and comments on student blogs<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(4) Choose your preferred privacy option<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(5) Decide which users (teachers) you want to manage your student blogs<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3580\" src=\"http:\/\/teacherchallenge.edublogs.org\/files\/2014\/04\/myclass62-1lotjtl.png\" alt=\"My Class settings\" width=\"650\" height=\"740\" \/><\/p>\n<p>3. \u00a0 Click\u00a0<strong>Save<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>4. \u00a0The My Class menu should change to the menu item shown below.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3581\" src=\"http:\/\/teacherchallenge.edublogs.org\/files\/2014\/04\/myclass63-15f8kgb.png\" alt=\"My Class menu items\" width=\"650\" height=\"192\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once\u00a0you&#8217;ve\u00a0created your class there are\u00a0two options for creating student blogs:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>You create the student blogs\u00a0using\u00a0<strong>My Class &gt; Create Student blogs<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Students create their own blogs using the <a href=\"https:\/\/edublogs.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Edublogs sign up page<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>We&#8217;ll walk you through the first option.<\/p>\n<p>Refer to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/help.edublogs.org\/2014\/03\/24\/own-student-blog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">create own student blog support page<\/a> if you want students to create their own blogs and attach their blog to My Class.<\/p>\n<h3>Create Student Blogs Using My Class<\/h3>\n<p>The following instructions explain how you create the student\u00a0blogs yourself using My Class.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You create student blogs as follows:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. \u00a0Go to<strong>\u00a0My Class &gt; \u00a0Create Student blogs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/teacherchallenge.edublogs.org\/files\/2014\/04\/myclass63-15f8kgb.png\" alt=\"My Class menu items\" width=\"650\" height=\"192\" \/><\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 For each student, add a username, email address (optional), password, blog URL, and blog title.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you leave the email address blank their user account is created using our no email option and you will be able to reset their password using the Edit link under their username in Users &gt; All Users.<\/li>\n<li>All passwords are stored encrypted in our system and can&#8217;t be viewed by anyone, including the user. Record your students&#8217; passwords in a spreadsheet as you create their account if you use our no email option.<\/li>\n<li>This creates their student blogs, adds them as a user to the class blog, adds you as a user to their student blog, and connects their student blog with the class blog.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5227\" src=\"https:\/\/teacherchallenge.edublogs.org\/files\/2016\/10\/student61-qpaief-2lhp2jg.jpg\" alt=\"Create Student blog\" width=\"770\" height=\"682\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We recommend you use the preset password option and record their username\/password\/blog URL in a spreadsheet as you create their blogs.<\/p>\n<p>Some teachers require students to inform them when passwords are changed so they have a record of each student\u2019s latest password.<\/p>\n<p>This is handy for those students who forget passwords or provide the wrong email address.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3582\" src=\"http:\/\/teacherchallenge.edublogs.org\/files\/2014\/04\/spreadsheet1-2ca0ar8.png\" alt=\"spreadsheet\" width=\"403\" height=\"102\" \/><\/p>\n<p>3. \u00a0Click <strong>Submit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have created all your student blogs they will be listed in <strong>My Class &gt; Widgets.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3585\" src=\"http:\/\/teacherchallenge.edublogs.org\/files\/2014\/04\/widgets-1mz2s6c.png\" alt=\"widgets\" width=\"650\" height=\"148\" \/><\/p>\n<p>2. \u00a0Drag the class blog widget to the desired sidebar.<\/p>\n<p>3. \u00a0The widget will automatically open.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0 Choose the options that suit you\u00a0and then click <strong>Save<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(1) Select \u2019No\u2019 under Public only if you are using private blogs<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(2) Select alphabetical under order<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(3) Select the number of blogs to display<\/p>\n<p>Please note:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can only use &#8216;Blog Name Only&#8217; if you have more than 10 student blogs.<\/li>\n<li>Any time you add any more student blogs to My Class, you update the Class blog list by opening up the Class blog widget and clicking <strong>Save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3586\" src=\"http:\/\/teacherchallenge.edublogs.org\/files\/2014\/04\/widget2-2ekayad.png\" alt=\"Class blog widget\" width=\"650\" height=\"582\" \/><\/p>\n<p>5. \u00a0The widget will look something like below in the sidebar of your class blog and the sidebar of a student blog.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3587\" src=\"http:\/\/teacherchallenge.edublogs.org\/files\/2014\/04\/student77-1o17l8l.png\" alt=\"Class blogs\" width=\"650\" height=\"404\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Navigate Between Dashboards<\/h3>\n<p>When you set up My Class, your student users are added as users to the class blog and to their own student blog.<\/p>\n<p>The menu items the students see depends on which dashboard they are logged into and what settings you have set in\u00a0<strong>My Class &gt; Settings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If your students see limited menu items it means they are logged into the class blog dashboard and need to navigate to their student blog dashboard.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You change blog dashboards as follows:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 Go to\u00a0<strong>My Sites<\/strong>\u00a0drop-down menu in your admin bar at the top of the blog.<\/p>\n<p>2. \u00a0Click on the dashboard of the blog you want to access.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3589\" src=\"http:\/\/teacherchallenge.edublogs.org\/files\/2014\/04\/student_blogs65-1lkizz9.png\" alt=\"Changing dashboards\" width=\"650\" height=\"188\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Moderating Posts And Comments<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>My Class allows you to moderate comments on student blogs if you wish. Moderating student posts is a feature of <a href=\"https:\/\/edublogs.org\/pro-upgrade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Edublogs Pro.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Student posts and comments can be checked using any of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dashboard &gt; Reader<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>My Class &gt; Student blogs<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Dashboard &gt; My Sites<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Users &gt; Reports<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>The Reader<\/h4>\n<p>The Reader is the fastest way to check all pending posts and comments on your student blogs.<\/p>\n<p>This allows you to preview posts and comments and publish them with one click!<\/p>\n<p>You would use the Reader if you used the following My Class settings:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4018\" src=\"http:\/\/teacherchallenge.edublogs.org\/files\/2014\/04\/myclass62-1lujh0h.png\" alt=\"My Class settings\" width=\"650\" height=\"53\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Reader is also where you and your students can read and comment on each others&#8217; posts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You preview posts and comments as follows<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. \u00a0Go to <strong>Dashboard &gt; Reader<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A number next to the Reader indicates there is a post or comment pending review.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5228\" src=\"https:\/\/teacherchallenge.edublogs.org\/files\/2016\/10\/reader61-2mir6t4-rwoo2o.jpg\" alt=\"Reader menu\" width=\"200\" height=\"162\" \/><\/p>\n<p>2. \u00a0Click on <strong>Pending tab<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5229\" src=\"https:\/\/teacherchallenge.edublogs.org\/files\/2016\/10\/reader62-26bnlpa-22fza4a.jpg\" alt=\"Pending tab\" width=\"903\" height=\"112\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the pending page, posts and comments are listed in reverse chronological order based on the date they were submitted.<\/p>\n<p>3. \u00a0Click on <strong>Read More<\/strong>\u00a0if you want to read the full post or click on <strong>Publish<\/strong> if you are happy to publish the post.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you selected &#8216;I must approve all posts&#8217; students aren&#8217;t able to edit the post once it is published.<\/li>\n<li>If you want the students to do further edits, you need to leave the post as pending or change the post to draft mode by opening it in edit mode.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5230\" src=\"https:\/\/teacherchallenge.edublogs.org\/files\/2016\/10\/reader63-1pukkop-1sola40.jpg\" alt=\"Click on Read More\" width=\"787\" height=\"386\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This displays the full post and allows you to select from the following options:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>View Original<\/strong>\u00a0&#8212; when you click on &#8216;View original&#8217; it loads the draft post on the student blog where you can see what the post will look like when published.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Edit<\/strong>\u00a0&#8212; clicking on Edit opens the post inside the dashboard of the student blog where you can make edits to the post.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Publish<\/strong> &#8212; to publish the post, click on Publish. Please note if you selected &#8216;I must approve all posts&#8217;, students aren&#8217;t able to edit the post once it is published. If you want the students to do further edits you need to leave the post as pending or change the post to draft mode by opening it in edit mode.<\/li>\n<li>The forward and back <strong>arrows<\/strong> allow you to navigate to the next or previous student post or comment.<\/li>\n<li>You can send a <strong>private comment<\/strong> to the student by selecting Private comment, adding the message and then click <strong>Post Comment<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5231\" src=\"https:\/\/teacherchallenge.edublogs.org\/files\/2016\/10\/reader64-134rwhl-14o8yli.jpg\" alt=\"Private Comment\" width=\"1017\" height=\"749\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>My Class &gt; Student Blogs<\/h4>\n<p><strong>My Class &gt; Student blogs<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Dashboard &gt; My Sites<\/strong> is where you\u2019ll see all your student blogs listed.<\/p>\n<p>Here is where you can use the Dashboard link to access a student&#8217;s blog.
