And they&#8217;re now introducing a <a href=\"http:\/\/learningwithdigitaltechnology.global2.vic.edu.au\/2018\/03\/06\/lodgers-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">companion podcast.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If that\u2019s not enough, Rob organizes a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.3ser.org.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">weekly radio show,<\/a>\u00a0has set up a weekly live streaming of a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCcrIoGNZ8NYFycy-VbOwJWA\/live\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">STEM class on YouTube<\/a>,\u00a0and is doing some impressive work in the areas of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/learningwithdigitaltechnology.global2.vic.edu.au\/robotics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">robotics<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/learningwithdigitaltechnology.global2.vic.edu.au\/learning-with-code\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coding<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/learningwithdigitaltechnology.global2.vic.edu.au\/stem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">3D printing<\/a>\u00a0and more.<\/p>\n<p>I invited Rob to share some insights on video creation with the participants of our Better Blogging With Students Course which we&#8217;ve recently wrapped up.<\/p>\n<p>Rob created this fabulous video to share for our course. <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/258904090\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Take a look!<\/a><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/258904090\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The above style of video is called typography. Check out <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/261757507\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the latest episode.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/261757507\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This news format is certainly a hit with the school community!<\/p>\n<p>Rob also created a video called <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/254286070\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">You Have The Power<\/a> for Safer Internet Day to share a message about staying safe online.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/254286070\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Rob used Adobe Photoshop to create the images and put the movie together using iMovie.<\/p>\n<p>You Have The Power had a bit impact on Rob&#8217;s school community and was also shared widely on social media.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feeling overwhelmed?<\/strong> While these videos are of a very high standard, you don&#8217;t need to have advanced tech skills to put a basic movie together.<\/p>\n<p>You might like to check out simple tools that do a lot of the work for you like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.powtoon.com\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PowToon<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/animoto.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Animoto<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/biteable.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biteable<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/lumen5.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lumen5<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.animaker.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Animaker<\/a>. These tools all have free options available.<\/p>\n<p>Be sure to share your suggestions for video creation in a comment.<\/p>\n<h3>Video Creation Tips From Rob<\/h3>\n<p><em>We thank Rob for putting together the following tips for budding videographers.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Creating short films and video with your students can be great fun, but don\u2019t be fooled&#8211; it\u2019s a lot of hard work.<\/p>\n<p>From storyboarding to editing, filmmaking in the classroom can be a challenging endeavor. However, fear not-\u2013 I\u2019m here to help. As a multimedia teacher, I have had many years of experience teaching students how to produce quality films.<\/p>\n<p>While I don\u2019t have a magic formula for you, I can offer you and your students some tips.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1)<\/strong> Think about the genre of the film you want to create. Is it a comedy or docudrama? It could just be text (\u2026we call this typography).<\/p>\n<p><strong>2)<\/strong> Create a storyboard. Know what you want to achieve before starting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3)<\/strong> Consider the audience. Who is the film for?<\/p>\n<p><strong>4)<\/strong> Keep the film short and sweet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5)<\/strong> Consider having the film narrated. If you think it would help the audience understand what is happening, do it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6)<\/strong> Use a good quality camera or device to capture HD video if you can.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7)<\/strong> Use simple editing software program such as iMovie to edit and render the film.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8)<\/strong> Don\u2019t rush it! If a shot or scene doesn\u2019t look visually or aesthetically pleasing (or the audio is hard to hear), re-shoot.
